STUTTGART, Germany/GENEVA, 30 July 2010 (LWI) – A new treasurer and seven vice presidents for The Lutheran World Federation (LWF) were elected by the LWF Council meeting in Stuttgart (Germany) 28-29 July, two days after the LWF Eleventh Assembly closed its business. The LWF council, also newly-elected at the Assembly, was led by Bishop Dr Munib A. Younan of the Evangelical Lutheran Church in Jordan and the Holy Land. The Council elected Ms Christina Jackson-Skelton from the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America (ELCA) as Treasurer. She will also chair the Program Committee for Finance and Administration. The seven LWF vice presidents represent the LWF regions. The vice presidents also chair the Program Committees while the LWF goes through a renewal process which will be concluded in 2012. The vice presidents are: From Africa – Bishop Alex G. Malasusa, Evangelical Lutheran Church in Tanzania, serving as chair of the Program Committee for Mission and Development; From Asia – Ms Eun-hae Kwon, Lutheran Church in Korea, serving as chair of the Program Committee for World Service From Central Eastern Europe – Bishop Dr Tamás Fabiny, The Evangelical Lutheran Church in Hungary, serving as chair of the Program Committee for Communication Services; From Central Western Europe – Bishop Dr Frank O. July, Evangelical Lutheran Church in Württemberg, serving as chair of the Program Committee for Theology and Studies; From Latin America and the Caribbean – Rev. Dr Gloria Rojas Vargas, Evangelical Lutheran Church in Chile, serving as chair of the Program Committee for International Affairs and Human Rights; From the Nordic Countries – Bishop Helga Haugland Byfuglien, Church of Norway, serving as chair of the Program Committee for Ecumenical Affairs; From North America – Bishop Susan Johnson, Evangelical Lutheran Church in Canada. The Council also assigned members to program committees, bearing in mind that the Geneva-based LWF secretariat will go through a renewal process and that further changes may be made in the future. LWF ASSEMBLY ELECTS 48 NEW COUNCIL MEMBERS Forty-eight nominees representing the seven regions of the Lutheran World Federation (LWF) were elected to the Council at the Eleventh LWF Assembly in Stuttgart, Germany. The new LWF Council consists of 26 female and 22 male members. Ten members are under 30 years and belong to the youth category. Twenty-eight members of the Council are ordained, 20 are lay. Bishop Dr Munib A. Younan from the Evangelical Lutheran Church of Jordan and the Holy Land (ELCJHL), elected as the next LWF president, is also a member of the Council. The Council is responsible for the business of the LWF between Assemblies. It decides on the structure of the LWF Secretariat, sets the budgets of the LWF and presents an annual report to the member churches. The new LWF Council will gather for its first meeting on 28 and 29 July 2010, which immediately follows the Assembly. The following is a list of the elections: Ordained: Rev.
